Who? “Civil was created in the year 2003 in southern Los Angeles. One mind thought of a concept of supporting all the cultures he grew up on or respected. Skateboarding, surfing, bboying, graffiti, bmx, fashion, basically most urban and street cultures.Most of these cultures have unsung heroes within them. The goal is to shine the light on the people who don’t get the recognition they deserve. The underdogs. Civil doesn’t generalize itself as one fad. We don’t consider ourselves skateboarders, breakdancers, graff artists, or greasers. We consider ourselves a symbol of these cultures because we either admire them or lived them.Thus, leading Civil to represent everything we grew up on and appreciated.We are a moving, breathing, entity, and a representation of street/urban cultures. Noi le persona..which means We the people. Civil represents the people.”
Civil has recently collaborated with some artists from Brazil to produce their new Holiday/Fall lookbook 2009. “We are really excited to present this new body of work as we feel it plays well in to the aesthetic and principle of Juxtapoz,” writes Brian of Civil.
