ADS Rant Of The Week: Jordan Brand

The Jordan Brand is one of the most recognizable brands in culture. The iconic Jumpman makes a person instantly think about either the man Michael Jordan himself, sports, or some of the most popular pairs of sneakers ever created. While I respect and congratulate the Jordan Brand, this week they really upset me let me tell you why.

This week it was announced that the Air Jordan III True Blue colorway, which was one of the most anticipated Jordan releases of the year will not be released in America. The shoes will only be available in the countries Asia, Canada, and Europe which means if you live in the US you will have to pay at least double the retail price because of shipping and the limited amount of shoes produced. The reason why I am so upset about this is because it seems like Jordan is turning it’s back on the same subculture that gave it’s brand a second life, the ‘sneakerhead’. It was the sneaker collector culture that put so much value into shoes that stores could no longer sell and used to sit in warehouses. The sneakerheads made old models of Air Jordan relevant again, and what do they get in return? The chance to be overexploited for more money by an multi-million dollar company.

Don’t get me wrong I know that there are plenty of sneakerheads in Europe, Asia, and worldwide but to disregard the US market seems inexcusable. “No ‘True Blues’ for you US market. Instead take these Jordan Fusions and Commemorative packages and pay $300 when you really only want one pair of the sneakers.” With all that being said I am currently boycotting the Jordan Brand till they get their act together, that means the Jordans that I do own I will not be wearing and you will not hear any Jordan news on Hype LG for a while. Thanks for your time and listening to me rant, please leave comments and let me know if you agree, disagree, or even care.

Peace,

I may be hated for this but… Jordan’s are overrated anyway. I’m too old to be paying more than $90 for sneakers on a consistent basis. Grow up and get your Prada, Gucci, Coach game on! But just like Jordans, if your going to get ‘em get the real ones… Please no Fucci’s and Fila’s

Great post…
